Chicago Art Circle was founded by Dr. Asharaf Dabawala, Dr. Madhumati Mehta, and friends in 1996. Originally, its purpose was to promote art, particularly poetry and music, in the Chicago metropolitan area. Later, its agenda was expanded to encourage poetry, short stories, plays, music, importance of humor, and development of positive attitude in life. So far it has successfully arranged approximately 50 programs featuring various local, national, and internationally known artists. Chicago Art Circle is run by 30 devoted volunteers and the circle is expanding.
The next Chicago Art Circle event is on November 13, 2016 and features renown Qawwali artists Fareed Ayaz and Abu Muhammad. They will sing Sufi as well as other types of Qawwali. They also present various forms of Hindustani classical music blended with the Qawwali style. They have performed in more than 25 countries, including the USA, UK, India, UAE, etc.
